This program provides in-person instruction only.
The nursing profession is concerned with the total health careof the individual and the family. It is a profession dedicatedto preventing illness, caring for those who are acutely ill, andassisting clients with long-term rehabilitative problems to live inthe healthiest way possible. Nursing is both a science and an art.The LVN to RN nursing program consists of integrated lectures,labs, and clinical rotations conducted in local area hospitals andhealth agencies. Upon successful completion of the courses inthe 30 Unit Option, a Certifcate of Achievement will be awarded,and graduates are qualifed for the National Council LicensureExamination-Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN).LVNs who select the 30-unit option to satisfy the requirementsfor RN licensure must consult the Nursing Counselor or RNProgram Director to discuss the advantages and disadvantages ofthis option. Students who obtain licensure with a 30-unit optioncertifcate may not be able to practice as an RN in any state butCalifornia. This option is only available on a space available basis.Please refer to the current LVN to RN application and programinformation located on the Madera Community College website. The graduate with a 30-unit option Certifcate of Achievement isa registered nurse prepared to coordinate, plan and implementnursing care in hospitals and community settings. The registerednurse assists clients with personal care, provides teaching andcounseling to prevent illness, promote health, and performsspecialized treatments and procedures. Registered Nursesfunction as team leaders who delegate and manage the careprovided by Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), certifed nursingassistants (CNAs), patient care technicians (PCTs) as well asunlicensed healthcare workers.

The order the rules set out starts at the center rather than at the school. Before a center can find somebody eligible for training services it has to gather enough to decide, at a minimum through an interview, evaluation or assessment and career planning.
