This program provides in-person instruction only.
The Medical Laboratory Technician program is designed to teach routine clinical laboratory testing procedures to provide scientific information needed in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of diseases. MLTs perform a wide variety of routine laboratory procedures such as specimen collection (phlebotomy) from patients and analyzing patient samples as requested by the patients healthcare provider. MLTs use sophisticated instrumentation for these evaluations which encompass quantitative and qualitative chemical and biological analyses of body specimens. MLTs are trained to maintain, operate, and troubleshoot automated medical instrumentation and equipment as well. MLTs function under the supervision of a qualified practitioner, such as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), Lab Director, or Pathologist to perform moderate complexity testing on patient samples.Successful completion of this program allows you to sit for the national MLT examination with ASCP towards your California MLT state license.
