This program provides in-person instruction only.
This program prepares individuals for employment as a front office assistant in a doctors office/clinic, medical billing service, insurance company, or outpatient hospital facility. Students learn medical terminology, abbreviations, procedures, and common diseases. The Medisoft software will be utilized to schedule patient appointments, manage files, verify insurance, and enter patient demographics. Telecommunications, file management and preparing correspondence will also be covered in the program. Students will have hands-or practice with electronic records management and the insurance billing process. Medicare, Medicaid, HMOS, PPOS and commercial plans will be discussed. HIPAA compliance, fraud/abuse, ethics, professionalism, and job search strategies will be emphasized throughout the course. The competencies in this course outline are aligned with the California high school academic content standards and the California career technical education model curriculum standards.
